Inspired: Master of layering

Aj Abualrub for T by Alexander Wang Fall 2011

Black has variations in hue and richness. It's the most memorable thing I learned from my first job. How rich is the colour? Is it truly black or is it dark grey? Is it red oriented or more on the green side? How deep the tone of black could go? What makes a perfect pair of washed black jeans?…The questions for this colour are endless.

Want some Americano on your Wang tee?

I've got coffee stains on my Jack Kerouac book, but never on my pure white Wang tee.

At the beginning of this month, I realized my daily cup of Starbucks Americano has raised its price. Now this global coffee vampire has got the new idea to suck young blood: Designer tees for fashionistas, how about that?

Consider these two dilemmas:
A: Could it be your worst nightmare if you or someone else splashed coffee on your US$85 Alexander Wang tee? You probably would have killed him, her or yourself.

B: Will you spend US$85 on a coffee-stained tee designed by Alexander Wang for the sake of 40th anniversary of Starbucks?

Crazy or creative? This limited edition tee is now available in US at Starbucks stores and its website. Nordstrom offers international shipping to my home with 40 bucks for shipping cost…it turns me off instantly.

HOMME: Designer in résidence - Alexander Wang

Text by interior design & home deco column HOMME contributor: Eric

Fashion designer Alexander Wang first collaborated with his decorator Ryan Korban during their years at college. Korban has never taken any formal education of interior design, so far, he has designed for Wang’s old apartment, showroom as well as his new store just opened months ago.
This time, Korban creates a really stylish space for Wang's new apartment in New York. We think Wang’s living space is just as sexy as his handbags! Let's take the tour!

The living room is divided into two areas: The first side features a palette of cool, black wooden floor with two big zebra rugs lying on it. The furnitures, mostly in black, forming a high contrast against the white walls.

On the other side, it’s a totally different space. Everything is soft: Couches and chairs are white in color, while the cabinet, the rug and the lightings add warmth to this cosy room.

Kitchen: Basically, it's an open kitchen with a small dining area -- a typical New York home living style.

The refrigerator mainly stores liquid refreshments.

First of all, this is the hottest dining room I've ever seen! It features a black crocodile dining chair and a chrome dining table - the legs of the table are formed in two "A"s.

Wang's bedroom has a big mirror beside his bed, so that he can check himself all the time (?!)

Inspired: I'm waiting for my (Wang) man

Here's good news: Alexander Wang will launch his first men's collection in fall 2011! His more casual line T by Alexander Wang has already earned him GQ's Best New Menswear Designer Award and CFDA Swarovski Award For Menswear this year. While Mr. Wang is doing so well on his women's collection, these awards reflect how bad the guys want to put on Wang's designs as well. Wang earlier told that his men's wear won't simply be a translation of the androgynous women's collection. The designs will be dedicated to the type of guys the Wang girls would love. He always knows what the girls want, doesn't he? And for the guys, black sweaters, jersey tuxedo, leather shorts and sweat-pants as suit-pants will be the new wardrobe staples for sure.
